Notice the small good things

Gratitude can be specific, and it can be small.

At the end of the day, it is easy to remember the thing that went wrong. Give yourself a little time to notice something else as well. A conversation. A meal. A moment outside. Someone who remembered.

Write down three things you are grateful for. They do not have to be impressive, and you do not have to force a cheerful conclusion onto a hard day.

Bring each one to God in a sentence. If someone helped you, consider thanking them too. Gratitude can turn our attention outward.

On a difficult day, one thing is enough. You can hold gratitude and grief together. The Psalms make room for both praise and lament; your prayers can too.
