When you don’t know what to say
You don’t need the right words to begin.

Find somewhere you can pause for a few minutes. There is no special posture you have to get right. You might sit at a kitchen table, stand by a window, or take a short walk.
Start with what is true: “God, I am tired,” “Thank you for today,” or simply “Are you there?” Christian prayer is a relationship, not a performance. Silence can be part of it.
If a little structure helps, try three sentences: Thank you for… I am finding it hard to… Please help… Take your time with each one. You can write them in the prayer notebook or say them quietly.
Jesus teaches his disciples to pray in Matthew 6:9–13. Read that prayer slowly and notice its concern for daily bread, forgiveness, and the needs of others. You do not have to cover everything in one sitting.
When you finish, return to your day. A short, honest prayer is a good beginning. If you want company as you learn, ask someone in a local church to pray with you.
